iPhone Not Showing Up In iTunes

If you can't see your iPhone in iTunes after you plug it in via the USB cable, then you might have to fix the driver on your computer. For me, the situation was, it was acting as a "Portable Storage" device (in the Windows Device Manager) instead of a phone device. Because of this, iTunes was not showing it as a syncable phone.

Here's what I did to fix it. Hopefully it will work for you too.

  1. Open the Computer Management panel

    1. Click on the Windows Start Circle

    2. Right click on "Computer"

    3. Select "Manage" (It will probably have a little shield next to it on the left side)

  2. Under "System Tools," click on "Device Manager"

  3. In the new list that shows up on the right, select the little triangle to the left of "Portable Storage"

  4. You should see your iPhone in there.

  5. Right click on your iPhone and select "Update Driver Software..."

  6. Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

  7. It should now be asking you for the location of the driver. Type this (without quotes): "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"

  8. Select "Next" and accept all defaults if anything else comes up.

That should fix it for you. Let me know if you have a problem.
